Geothermal Energy

Evaluating and optimising geothermal energy projects

Geothermal energy is an important source of sustainable, baseload electricity. The success of a geothermal energy project critically depends on the temperature and permeability of the reservoir, which are uncertain. To guide the design and optimisation of a geothermal reservoir, we provide numerical solutions for

  • Feasibility studies of the geothermal reservoir incorporating and testing the current understanding of there reservoir.
  • Sensitivity studies to assess the variability in reservoir performance based on the uncertainty in the geology.
  • Optimising well placement & well operation strategies

Software

The multi-physics simulation platforms Open-CSMP++ and GEOSX can be leveraged to perform 3-dimensional thermo-hydrological simulations to evaluate the performance of the geothermal reservoir, while testing various hypothesis for the conceptual model of the reservoir.  Moreover, development to include mechanical couplings is underway, along with the capability to explicitly include fractures and faults for high fidelity simulations. We can provide bespoke solutions as full-time developers of Open-CSMP++.
